We take one every year. We put up money for them each payday. Sometimes omtveire goes into the fund. My husband has mandatory omtveire quite a bit. It is the norm usually. Decide where you want to go and what you want to do there. Look up the lodging and activities and figure out how much gas you would need. Decide about meals and then you would know how much to save. Make sure you have extra. If one year you are a little short, take a shorter vacation or one closer to home. There are a lot of hotels anymore that have a refrigerator in the room. Some even have galley kitchens so you can take food instead of eating out. There are so many ways to cut costs, you just have to look. You can go on the reservation sight of a hotel and see which week is cheaper.

I have to say I agree with the sentiments of most people polled. A ring is definitely meaningful, and symbolism is something most women highly value. But a $25,000 diamond ring...? Maybe not! Diamonds aren't magical charms that will improve our relationship with each other! Like I am fond of saying, marriage is not a business transaction! Ultimately, whether to have a diamond ring or not is up to the couple, but I personally recommend thinking thrice!

I think we all at some point ends up dipping into our savings to pay for some unexpected expenses, but if it happens too often, it wouldn't be good. It would help to monitor your spending habits and make changes. I wrote something about it in a previous post - Curb the Spending Urges =)

I usually have piggy bank savings but like the storyline in UP the animated movie, I usually have to break-into the piggy bank to pay for some unaccounted for expenses :-( Wish you all the best in saving. As the saying goes "A penny saved is a penny earned".
